“In the Work Ready class, part of the month is spent preparing and practicing job interviews,” said Aaryn Manning, Director of Education.
I affectionately refer to it as “interview speed dating.” Here is how I run it: : I reach out to a number of alumni to ask if they will come to my class and participate in mock interviews.
I aim to find alums with varying levels of experience (from under three years to 30 years) who work in a variety of practice settings (public defender’s office, large firm, solo practice, in-house counsel, etc.).
‘Generally, I would say worry more about the basics that can get you screened out quickly, and less about the stranger processes, which happen less often,’ says Lees.
‘The bigger worry is when you’re not used to presenting yourself – and it’s a much bigger barrier for senior people, who might not have had an interview for 20 years or more.
It doesn’t matter if you’re out by a significant factor, it’s the fact that you’re prepared to have a go at it.
