Because Bound Fields Name and Sort Order are strings, their default Edit Item Template are Text Box controls. When you press Edit, notice also that not only the Bound Fields switch to edit mode but the Template Field too. Sort Order" Update Command="UPDATE [Genre] SET [Name] = @Name, [Sort Order] = @Sort Order WHERE [Id] = @Id" Then, i configure the gridview’s “On Row Data Bound” event, to check if the number of the attached Reviews are greater than zero.We configured though the Edit Item Template of the Template Field, to contain two other Link Button controls, with Command Name “Update” and “Cancel”. If so, i just disable the linkbutton and finally, you can’t press it.

Basically I have a JSON object returned from my PHP back-end querying a db to get values which I display in a grid view which works fine.
However I would like it to continually update the store used by the grid view and have changes on the db bound to the store so an update in a row value on the db is automatically reflected in the grid view without any user action needed. As the above method I can make poll db every 10 seconds but I am sure there are better ways to approach this.

If you try and run the page you will actually see the data in the Grid View. So we added two link buttons, one for Editing and one for Deleting.
But still, isn’t so fancy and moreover doesn’t support editing and updating records. The one for Editing has a Command Name attribute assigned to “Edit”.
Updating data through manually-created Web Forms is a bit more difficult and less practical because the Web controls that make up the updating interface must also be populated with the values of the record being edited.
For example, to let a visitor edit a database record you first need to let them choose which record to edit.
Likewise, the parameter values in the Astute readers will notice the similarity between the Access Data Source and Sql Data Source controls' inserting, deleting, and updating workflows.
Regardless of what workflow is initiated, they all follow the same six steps: the firing of the appropriate pre-action event (, in the case of the updating workflow).
AND Primary Key Column Name N = @Primary Key Value To Update N , in this instance - has its value specified via the data source control's Select Parameters, which can specify a source for the parameter value.
